Special Session SS16

Active Support Technologies for Renewable Power Generation Systems

Introduction:

As the renewable power generations, such as wind and photovoltaic power, continuously integrate into the grid, the power system exhibits unfavorable characteristics with low inertia, low short-circuit ratio, and weak damping, making it difficult to cope with active/reactive power rushes caused by AC/DC faults. Consequently, numerous major safety accidents resulting from frequency/voltage instability have occurred in power grids worldwide. Therefore, enhancing the active support capabilities of renewable power generation systems (RPGSs) makes a significant difference in ensuring the safe and stable operation of power systems.
This special session focuses on cutting-edge research in active support technologies for RPGSs. It aims to investigate supporting capability assessment, response mechanisms, advanced controls, performance promotions, and engineering applications.
Topics including, but not limited to:
1. Support capability assessment and redundant configuration for renewable power generation systems;
2. Active support mechanism and control for renewable power generation systems;
3. Grid-forming mechanism and optimization control for renewable power generation systems;
4. Advanced control, economic operation and energy management for storage systems;
5. Stability analysis of active support control for renewable power generation systems;
6. New active support equipment, such as high-inertia synchronous condenser, variable speed pumped storage, etc;
7. Power configuration and coordination control among multiple supporting resources;
8. The application of AI technologies in the field of active support control.
