Special Session SS05

Grid Forming Technologies for New Power Systems

Introduction:

With the continuous advancement of the new power system, a large number of power electronic equipment such as new energy, energy storage, and flexible DC transmission are widely connected to the receiving-end power grid, causing significant changes in the system's operational characteristics. While enhancing the flexibility of system operation, it has also increased the difficulty of coordinating multiple types of resources. Grid-forming technology, as a core technology with the ability to autonomously establish the voltage and frequency reference of a system, has become one of the main approaches to support new energy sources as the main power supply, suppress complex oscillation phenomena, and promote the power electronics transformation of power systems. This special session will focus on the latest research progress of grid-forming technologies in the context of power grids. From the perspective of large power grids, it will mainly discuss the cutting-edge research on grid-forming technologies in various types of equipment such as wind turbines, photovoltaic systems, energy storage, and Static Var Generator, as well as the optimal allocation of grid-following and grid-forming resources. Topics include, but are not limited to:
1. Design and manufacture of grid-forming wind turbine units;
2. Grid-forming wind or photovoltaic power generation and grid connection technology;
3. Grid-forming energy storage or SVG and active support technology;
4. Advanced topology and control strategies for grid-forming equipment;
5. Wide-band oscillation Mechanism and analysis technology;
6. Multi-time scale Modeling and Simulation of the Power Grid;
7. Requirement assessment and planning design of the grid-following or grid-forming technology;
8. Optimize configuration strategy of the grid-following and grid-forming resources
